Gavin Ashfield made it two out of two for this season’s opening time trial events. Riding with Simon Doyle, Ashfield proved to be the man to watch as the pair recorded a winning time of 1h 05m 53s for the 25 miles, this was despite suffering mechanical issues within the first few miles. Nick Hickman and James Gomm were thwarted due to a serious front wheel puncture to Hickman’s machine. Gomm continued on to record a respectable 1h 09m 28s having had to abort the qualifying paired ride. Nigel Wilson and Jon Traynor riding standard road bikes qualified in second spot. Conditions were tough as riders fought their way northwards during the three laps around Southill and Old Warden.
Jame Spence was Master of Ceremonies on the watches and Jane Hickman provided post-race sustenance. Riders were cheered on by Steve Smith who took the photographs and is also recuperating from injury.
