Coaching & Development

Coaching sessions

We have qualified (volunteer) British Cycling coaches who can take learners from age 6 upwards through the Go Ride Gears Levels 1-4 syllabus.

The Coaching programme is developed and accredited by the national governing body, British Cycling – Go Ride programme is designed to teach skills that will help all riders improve their core skills, bike handling and group riding abilities. It’s not just for kids, you are never too old to learn.

We aim to provide several skills development session per year for all age groups.

If you want any ad hoc advice or coaching feel free to have a chat with any of the committee or coaches or email coaching@hitchinnomads.cc

Youth development

Our main youth coaching delivery at present is focussed on a “Cluster” basis with other local clubs. By pooling our qualified, volunteer, coaching resource in a “cluster”, we aim to be able to run throughout the year, with different groups aimed at different age and ability levels. For beginners these are based on fun skills learning, (learning to ride), whilst more experienced riders move on add an element of competition (learning to race).

These session are held at RAF Henlow on Saturdays from 10:00 – 12:00. For security reasons both rider and parent must be pre-registered to attend these sessions (by the Wednesday prior to the first Saturday session attended).

When ready we encourage riders to start racing at an appropriate level – for example in the “Muddy Monsters” off-road fun racing series, (we run events in this series in Hitchin, whilst other events are run by nearby clubs such as CC Ashwell and Welwyn Wheelers).  Other young riders take part in Road Racing (on closed roads) and time trialling (allowed from 12 years upwards).

We strongly recommend that youth cycling is better if supported by interested parents or carers, who are always welcome to attend coaching and other events. We may even find something for you to do. If your child enjoys cycling we encourage family rather than solo membership for all children under 16.
